Lava CardLava Card
VisaVirtual onlySince 2026A secured Visa credit card built on top of a bitcoin-backed lending protocol: spend dollars against BTC collateral without selling it, pay zero FX fee and zero spread anywhere in the world, and earn up to 5% back in actual bitcoin.
The issuer does not publish enough of its charges for us to price this card. That is not the same as cheap.
Whether to take Lava Card
In its favour
- Up to 5% back in real bitcoin, not points — 5% at Lava merchant partners worldwide
- 3% back in bitcoin for US-based users, 1% for users outside the US, on all other purchases
- Zero FX fee and zero spread — you get Visa's official rate with no markup
- No annual fee and no minimum spend
Against it
- It is a secured credit card, not a debit card — spending is gated by your dollar balance and issuer approval
- Apple Pay and Google Pay support is not published anywhere on the official site
- Physical card availability is not documented — treat it as digital-only until confirmed
- Top-up and issuance fees are not published
Also true, in its favour
- Fund it three ways: stablecoin deposit, bank transfer, or direct deposit of your paycheck
- You can also spend against your bitcoin without selling it, via Lava's BLOC line of credit
- Rewards are issued as soon as the transaction settles
- Works anywhere Visa is accepted — 150M+ merchants across 150+ countries

No annual fee, no minimum spend, and no FX fee or spread on foreign currency — Lava passes through Visa's official exchange rate without markup. Rewards: 5% in bitcoin at Lava merchant partners globally, otherwise 3% for US-based users and 1% for users outside the US. Top-up fee, issuance fee and spending limits are not published on the official site. Funding by borrowing against bitcoin through BLOC carries interest starting at 5% and up to 50% loan-to-value.
KYC: what Lava Card asks for
Full verification: a document, a photograph of your face and proof of your address. The same file a bank opens on you, held by a company that is not a bank.
Limits on spending
Lava Card publishes no spending limits at all.
Where it works
The issuer names no country it turns away. That is not a promise that every country works.
The other flaws
- Spending limits are not published
- If you fund by borrowing against BTC via BLOC, interest starts at 5% and your collateral is at liquidation risk
- Reward rate is heavily US-biased: 3% domestic versus 1% for everyone else
- Country eligibility for card issuance is not published
